BUILDING A BETTER FUTURE: PARTNERING WITH A SUSTAINABLE BATH SUPPLIER

At Trojan, we’re serious about environmentally friendly operations.

From utilising local suppliers for many of our raw materials to a 500 KW PV solar system on our roofs, and by implementing an innovative and patented recycling process for our waste acrylic. We are striving to be as green as possible and lead the way in eco-friendly manufacturing within the bath and shower tray industry.

Here’s a quick outline of everything we do to keep ourselves ahead of the game when it comes to our environmentally friendly operation.

To outline our key areas of focus when it comes to our sustainable mindset, we have established a comprehensive Environmental Policy. This policy outlines our commitment to:

  • Reducing the use of fossil fuels by generating electricity from solar panels.
    • Adhering to all national and local environmental regulations and standards. Including working with our local council to ensure they are satisfied and renew our permit to work.
      • Working with our suppliers to ensure our dust control systems and emission stacks are monitored and serviced regularly.
        • Sourcing, where possible, raw materials from local – UK – audited supplies.
          • Working with our suppliers to learn from each other on how we can reduce our impact on the environment.
          • Regular reviews of our policies ensure we remain up to date with changing legislation and public concerns.

            SOURCING AND RECYLING

Whenever possible, we prioritise sourcing our raw materials locally. This not only supports the local economy but also reduces the carbon footprint associated with long-distance transportation. We only use timber from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) registered and compliant suppliers, ensuring that our wood products come from responsibly managed forests, to make sure our materials are as sustainable as possible, whilst retaining our high-quality product standards.

Our plastic packaging contains 30% recycled content too, which aligns with industry standards and helps minimise the environmental impact of our packaging materials.

Similarly, with disposing of waste and making the most out of our materials, our partnership with Future Polymers has established two significant recycling facilities at our Ramsden Mills site, and a smaller one at Ashbrow, where we can recycle both clean and contaminated plastic waste. These efforts significantly reduce landfill contributions. We are working with our suppliers to create a closed loop supply chain on some grades of materials.

            TRANSPORTATION AND MOBILITY

We have a comprehensive and varied approach to reducing our carbon footprint when it comes to transport and power. Most of our heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and vans comply with Euro 6 standards, ensuring lower emissions and better fuel efficiency. Additionally, most of our company cars are either hybrid or fully electric, further reducing our carbon footprint. We also encourage our employees to adopt greener commuting options through our Bike2Work scheme with an approximate 10% uptake on the scheme.

These initiatives are supported by our 500kW solar system that generates approximately 9-12% of our annual energy needs through solar power, as we truly believe in the power of renewable energy. By reducing our reliance on non-renewable energy sources, this also decreases our overall carbon emissions.
