Home » THE TROJAN DIFFERENCE: HOW 50 YEARS OF TRADING EXPERIENCE HELPS OUR CUSTOMERS

NEWS & INSIGHTS

This month, Trojan is proud to celebrate its golden anniversary, as we commemorate over 50 years of UK bath manufacturing excellence.

Over the years, Trojan has become one of the largest acrylic bath manufacturers in Europe, and has built a reputation for producing high quality, innovative designs.

In 2024 alone, we celebrated two regional award nominations in Yorkshire’s manufacturing sector; The Yorkshire Post Business Excellence Awards and The Yorkshire & Humberside Family Business Awards, underscoring our commitment to our family-first ethos that has driven the business’ success since day one.

In this blog, we will look back Trojan’s journey over the years, seeing how we’ve grown into the business we are today, and how we plan to continuously improve our processes and expand our product portfolio as we look to our future.

Starting from humble beginnings in 1975, Trojan was founded by Maurice Mosley when he set out to prove that he could manufacture an acrylic bath product far superior to what was then available on the market.

As the company figurehead, he achieved just that, building a business that became known for its innovative bath and shower tray solutions, under-pinned by a commitment to quality, sustainability, and employee well-being.

Since those early days, we have weathered numerous challenges, including a major arson attack in 1977 and significant financial setbacks in 1991. Despite these obstacles, the business has remained steadfast to its quality promise exceptional customer service, driven by our family ethos.

Today, Trojan has a 240-strong team, led by Maurice’s youngest son David as Managing Director who joined the business 24 years ago. In 2012, he took over the reins from Ernie Hatton, who had been managing director since 1992. Under David’s leadership, Trojan has continued to grow and expand its market reach over the years.

Following in his father’s footsteps, David has nurtured Trojan into a manufacturing powerhouse. We produce over 6,000 baths across a wide range of designs each week, operating from three distinct factories in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

Ramsden Mills is our eleven-acre site in Milnsbridge, which is home to our distinct bath manufacturing facilities, including a specialist site for crafting Trojan-cast baths.

Firms Mills, our three-acre site in Longwood is dedicated to Traymate by Trojan and hosts our training academy for clients and stakeholders to share our passion for crafting the best quality acrylic baths. Previously, our Traymate products were manufactured in Essex, but the decision was made to relocate to Huddersfield in 2023 to consolidate operations and capitalise on Trojan’s extensive manufacturing infrastructure.

Our third and final site, Ashbrow Mills, is seven-acres of manufacturing facilities focused on producing freestanding and solid surface products, including our Aquair, whirlpool bath range.

Each of our sites is given ample space to ensure every product is manufactured to the highest quality, without compromise.

We proudly market the fact that Trojan Baths is a family business, on our website and on our social media platform. We believe that our family heritage sets us apart from other companies and conveys a strong message of trust, reliability, and commitment to our employees and customers. Therefore, strengthening our workforce is also central to our success.

As a family business, we aspire to create a positive work environment that encourages innovation and collaboration. We believe that by fostering a strong sense of community and well-being, we can create a more productive and fulfilling workplace for everyone. Here at Trojan, we will continue to focus on employee development, with plans to introduce enhanced training programmes and career progression opportunities.

Being quality UK bath manufacturers makes us the frontrunners of our industry, setting standards for wholesale bath supply both within the UK and overseas. We use acrylic to manufacture our range of baths as it is renowned for its high resistance against cracks and leaks, ease of maintenance and affordability.

Unlike a fibreglass bath, they won’t crack or warp when in contact with water for longer durations. Buying our British-made baths and shower trays ensures your customers receive exceptional quality and craftmanship, having a long-lasting impact on local communities and supply chains. We plan to invest in cutting-edge technology to enhance our manufacturing capabilities and product quality. This includes new production moulds, equipment for enhanced efficiency, and R&D initiatives focused on pioneering design and functionality. By embracing innovation, we aim to stay ahead of industry trends and deliver products that meet the evolving needs of our customers.

Sustainability has been an important part of Trojan’s ethos for the last 50 years and it also the key to our future growth. As we’re located in a conservation area adjacent to a canal, river, and woodland, it has naturally impacted our commitment to sustainability. As a leading acrylic bath manufacturer, we knew it was important to ensure we have a positive impact on the environment. So, we have developed and patented an innovative recycling process that reduces landfill and supports a circular economy.

When we recycle our acrylic cut-offs, our partnership with Future Polymers means these waste materials are processed, separated and cleaned of any contamination without using any chemicals.  These materials from our site are either sold directly back to our suppliers to create a “closed loop” supply chain or are sold to other industries for reuse.

We’ve also installed a 500kW solar system that supplies approximately 10% of our energy requirements, and we plan to further reduce our environmental impact by investing in energy-efficient technologies and sustainable materials, while continually improving the efficiency of our manufacturing processes.

We purposefully craft our products to in turn allow consumers to monitor their own impact on the world’s resources. By positioning ourselves as leaders in environmentally friendly practices, we aim to meet growing demand from our customers’ customers who are increasingly eco-conscious, to strengthen our market position.

Here at Trojan, we’re continually investing in new designs, plants and equipment to stay ahead of the market and in an ever evolving, fiercely dynamic and competitive global market.

We plan to broaden our offering by continuing to develop and diversify our product portfolio. The successful acquisition of Traymate Products Ltd in 2024 and the integration of its minimalist shower trays into our product line demonstrate our commitment to staying at the forefront of bathroom design trends.

Coming later in 2025 is our new range of Bathe Easy Power lift baths, which showcases impressive British engineering and innovation. By collaborating with a third-party partner on Living Showers and Bath Out Shower In (BOSI®), we’re able to expand our product line designed for the less-abled market too.

Through these strategies, Trojan aims to continue its legacy of growth, providing high-quality, innovative products. As a family business, we are committed to long-term success, ensuring that future generations continue to benefit from the values and principles that have driven us for nearly five decades.
