Frequently Asked Questions
All Trojan baths are manufactured from cross linked, cell cast sanitaryware grade acrylic. In bath manufacturing, crosslinking the acrylic helps to create a surface that stays glossy and smooth, even after years of use, exposure to hot water and bath cleaning products. Trojan baths have a high degree of chemical resistance, are 100% UV stable and offer a better degree of scratch resistance than other market alternatives. Our manufacturing processes ensure that our premium acrylic baths are more durable than basic plastic ones.
The majority of our baths are formed from 4mm acrylic. However, we also offer 3.2mm, 5mm and 8mm depending on the customer’s price point. Not all baths can be moulded from 8mm due the tight radii on some designs – get in touch with our experts to find out more.
All bath manufacturers vacuum form their baths. Prior to this process, the acrylic is preheated to between 175-190 degrees Celsius. Once the acrylic is pliable it is clamped over an aluminium tool, and a vacuum is applied underneath the sheet to draw it down into the bath shape. The deeper the bath, the more the material will stretch. The plug is the deepest part of the bath as it allows the water to drain, and is therefore the place where the acrylic appears the thinnest.
As the bath has been formed from a stretched acrylic sheet, the “bath shell” needs to be reinforced so that it can hold water for bathing or be stood in for showering. The material applied to the back of the bath is a modified DCPD polyester resin and chopped roving. These two materials are mixed together by spray equipment that adds a catalyst. During the reinforcement process, a chipboard base is added to the underside of the bath and encapsulated into the bath by the reinforcement. At Trojan, we pre router all our baseboards so that they can go around the plug hole, offering more support where it is needed. Once reinforced, the material is consolidated onto the underside of the bath and cured.
In line with European standards, the waste and overflow holes are drilled with a 52mm diameter.
We offer a variety of fittings depending on which market the product is being supplied to; the domestic (UK), European or Middle East markets. All Trojan baths manufactured for the UK market are supplied with fittings. We offer not only 10mm feet, but an 8mm centre foot and bracket, and wall brackets on all standard baths.
Only our modern twin skin and Bathe Easy baths are supplied with wastes and overflows. This is due to the nature of the bath’s construction.
Once completed, Trojan baths meet the stringent requirements of EN14516:2015 +a1:2018 (CL.1), the European standard for domestic baths.
Fitted baths are generally installed directly against the wall or between two walls. The baths will have a one or two panels depending on the installation. Fitted baths don’t have to be limited to the budget-friendly market as they come in a diverse range of shapes (styles) and sizes. Trojan’s extensive range of fitted baths provides stylish yet practical solutions for bathrooms of all sizes.
Modern twin skin freestanding baths are luxury standalone bathtubs featuring double-wall construction with two separate layers – an inner bath and outer shell – with an insulating air gap between them. Unlike fitted baths, freestanding baths are not attached to walls and can be positioned anywhere in the bathroom as a contemporary centrepiece. Twin skin baths feature modern styling with clean lines, sleek finishes, and minimalist aesthetics that complement contemporary bathroom interiors. The thicker double walls create a premium, luxurious feel and superior build quality, making them both a functional bathing solution and an elegant design statement.
Traditional clawfoot baths from Trojan are made from acrylic and are based on the classic freestanding bathtub designs that replicate the iconic Victorian-era baths, featuring four decorative “feet”. We offer either a ball and claw or Lions foot designs to elevate the bath off the floor. Trojan’s acrylic clawfoot baths offer significant advantages over traditional cast iron baths of the same design; their much lighter weight makes for easier installation and their superior heat retention ensure longer, warmer baths.
TrojanCast is Trojan’s intensive reinforcement process, which is offered on all standard acrylic baths, creating incredibly strong and hard-wearing products with extra strength and rigidity, which is traditionally associated with cast iron baths. The process begins with a 4mm reinforced acrylic sheet. Post reinforcement and curing, the bath is subject to an additional reinforcement process, and a distinctive flow coat is added which creates a distinctive green finish on the underside of the bath making it recognisable.
TrojanCast is ideal for busy family homes, hotels and rental accommodation – find out more now.
The cleaning requirements of our baths vary depending on your water type:
Soft water areas: Wash with warm water and detergent, using a soft cloth or sponge.
Hard water areas: Non-abrasive or mild acid cleansers may be used to address scale build up.
For all areas, clean regularly and finish by wiping with a dry, soft cloth to maintain the bath’s appearance.
